Born in Terry, Mississippi in 1920, Uncle Jessie moved to Detroit in the 50s.  Many consider him the Godfather of Detroit Blues.  He held Blues jams in his house on 29th Street in Detroit, a mecca for local musicians, where 2 generations of musicians learned about the Delta Blues,
Then later for nearly 20 years he continued playing and mentoring at the Soup Kitchen bar near downtown Detroit, and the Attic Bar in Hamtramck.

All 3 members of the Grand Masters – Jeff Grand, Tino Gross & Chris Rumel played with Uncle Jessie many times, as members of his 29th Street Band.

Jazz & Blues @ the Southfield Library is in its 13th year of presenting monthly live ooncerts featuring the fest of local Detroit area Blues & Jazz bands.
